Execration are priced as high as +1270 for this match, which gives them a mere 7.3% implied probability of winning. That’s very low, regardless of how much stronger Team Secret seem to be.

Secret have not been too consistent with their performances in 2021 and have not faced a single Southeast Asian team since the ONE Esports Singapore Major, where they struggled against OB Esports x Neon (2-1). That seems to suggest they don’t do well against the playstyle of SEA sides, so we are happy to take the odds on Execration to cover the map line.

?This is another match where you have to consider betting on the outsiders, for AS Monaco Gambit are severely underrated at monster odds of +1232. The Russians took down the likes of Team Liquid, Team Nigma and T1 in the Singapore Major group stage and only narrowly missed out on reaching the playoffs, losing the tiebreaker against Liquid.

And it’s not only Gambit’s high ceiling that makes us hopeful about their chances to spring an upset, but also Vici Gaming’s inconsistency. While the Chinese side can be excellent at time, they can look equally as terrible on any given day. At these odds, AS Monaco Gambit to win at least one map is a great bet.

?Wednesday’s clash will mark only the second meeting in history between these two sides, and their first since the ONE Esports Singapore Major in March when they parted ways with a 1-1 draw.

Team Nigma enter this match as the betting favourites, which makes sense since they hail from a highly competitive European region. In our previous Dota 2 betting previews, we touched on Nigma’s inconsistency and how has this trait has held them back throughout the season. Vici Gaming aren’t much different in that aspect.

Vici can have days when they’ll beat some of the best Chinese teams, but they’re also more than capable of losing against second-tier squads. Out of the two, we are giving Nigma a better chance to make it out of this stage, but since this is the tournament’s opening round, you can’t really know what will happen.

The price for the draw is hard to ignore, but if you’re looking for a moneyline pick, Nigma are the better choice.

?Invictus Gaming are the reigning ONE Esports Singapore Major champions and are already guaranteed a spot at The International 10. Although we wouldn’t put too much weight on their title-winning run at the first Dota 2 Major of the year, it’s essential to keep in mind that IG don’t really need to win in Ukraine, so they might lack the motivation to give it 100%.

It’s not only the lack of motivation that concerns us, but also IG’s shaky form and that they’ll have to play with their coach, Su “super” Peng. Super will replace IG’s key player, Chan “Oli~” Chon, who is grounded in Malaysia due to a false positive COVID-19 test.

Invictus Gaming still seem stronger than Execration since the latter hail from a relatively weak region, but it’s not like the underdogs can’t punch up. IG enter this match weakened and should be vulnerable enough for Execration to steal one map.
